Many jobs for many people. Or one job for your software.
Hootsuite is a department in software form: someone drafting, someone approving, someone reading analytics, someone watching the inbox. It has a public REST API too — but the product is the suite, and the API exists to extend it.
Social Fanout assumes the primary operator is your application or agent. The core remains POST /v1/publish, fanned out to up to 20 targets with a receipt each; its lightweight agenda, Post Flight Deck, metrics, and Inbox are optional operating surfaces rather than the product center.1
So this isn’t “Hootsuite has no API.” It does. The real differences: a single fan-out primitive, agreement-backed self-hosting, hosted resale through a written agreement.

A console to operate, or a request to send

- Open the dashboard, pick a workspace
- Compose, attach media
- Select social profiles
- Route for approval if required
- Schedule to the calendar
SOCIAL FANOUT
Replace the example account IDs with your owned connections and keep the key private. This dry run checks routing and plan access without posting. It does not prove provider acceptance. Approve the exact content and accounts before a live request.
If a team is curating the week, that left column is the whole point. If software is publishing, it’s overhead — and the one request is the work.
When Hootsuite fits
You’re running a brand with a team: drafts that need approval, mentions that need monitoring, paid and organic living together, and reporting leadership will ask for. That’s a suite’s job. Social Fanout is an API, not a place a marketing team works — and its workflow is designed around API publishing.
A team could use Hootsuite for campaign work and Social Fanout for publishing inside a product. Evaluate the overlap and account requirements before adding a second service.
